Right Brain’s 2011 Progress Report is here!

The Right Brain Initiative is pleased to announce the release of our 2011 Progress Report (download the PDF file here)! This year, we saw outstanding developments in our program across the board:

  • We engaged a highly diverse population of over 11,000 children, 523 teachers and 25 schools across 4 school districts in “whole-brain thinking.”
  • We received our first federal grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.
  • We were selected as the third national site for the Any Given Child initiative of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, with co-applicants the City of Portland and our partner school districts.
  • With expanded professional development programming, we empowered our teachers and teaching artists to design more meaningful classroom experiences.
  • Based on feedback from our schools, we gave new attention to the ability of the arts to teach skills our children will need in the changing world: communication and collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, a sense of community and compassion; and we expanded our evaluation methods to reflect this advancement.
  • We received our highest level of support from both the private and public sectors.

Now, at the top of a bright new September, we have even more to look forward to. The 2011-2012 school year is in full swing, and our program’s purview is set to expand by one new district (Oregon Trail) and six new schools. We look forward to having you on board with us!
