Sparkle and Shine

With adult help, find safe sources of light to create light art. Check for holiday lights, flash lights, old toys, or glow-in-the-dark things. With adult help, find a dark space (a closet, a room with the windows covered, or outside at night) and experiment with your lights. Try moving the lights, covering them with shades, making shadows, or placing them in certain areas to illuminate a spot. Play with how to make the light shine large or shine small, dim and bright or into different shapes. Consider whether you would like to make a performance (have an audience watch a story or dance with the lights) or an installation (create a room or area of space that your viewers will come and look at) or both.
IMPORTANT CAUTION: Lights can be hot and burn skin, melt things, or catch fire; they can hurt your eyes if you stare directly into them; power outlets and electrical wires can zap fingers and hands. Make sure that an adult is close at hand and knows about all of the materials and lights you are using!
