The Right Brain Initiative

Any Given Child surveys are here and we want your input!

February 3rd, 2011 by Right Brain Team

Friends, neighbors, community members and fellow right brain enthusiasts—we need your help! The Right Brain Initiative is currently conducting community surveys as part of our partnership with the Any Given Child program and we invite you to participate in this exciting opportunity.

We’ve already talked a lot about our partnership with Any Given Child and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. In short, this program exists to help communities assess K-8 arts education needs and develop a long-term plan for sustainable and equitable arts learning. Right Brain and RACC, along with the City of Portland and the four school districts we work with, are proud to be the third national partners inducted into the program.

Now, we begin the first concrete phase of the project. As part of our assessment, we’re distributing surveys throughout the community to get a sense of the need for arts education, the availability of current resources, and any barriers that prevent access to arts education in our schools. This is where you step in.

We are calling on community members like you to help us gather public input that will be used to create a customized long-range plan for comprehensive arts education that is equitable and sustainable. Each survey takes just a few minutes to complete and we appreciate your time and effort to help us achieve our goal.

If you live in Clackamas, Multnomah or Washington County, Oregon, please fill out this community survey by March 20, 2011. English version | Spanish version.

If you represent an arts institution with educational programming in the Portland area (tri-county) or if you teach the arts professionally in Portland area schools, please fill out this artist survey by February 22, 2011.

If you are a licensed staff member currently employed by K-8 schools in the Gresham-Barlow, Hillsboro, North Clackamas, or Portland Public School districts, please fill out this staff survey by February 25, 2011.

We’re working to distribute this survey as broadly as possible, so please help us spread the word by forwarding these links to your neighbors, colleagues and associates—particularly those that may have under-represented views.

For general questions about this survey, or if you think you can more effectively  distribute hard copy surveys to members of your community, please contact Rebecca Burrell, The Right Brain Initiative Outreach Specialist, at

Thank you so much for being a part of this process that we expect to make a historic impact on arts education in this region. We value your input and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

We’ll release the survey results and long-range plan to the public in August of this year. To stay up-to-date on our progress, sign up for our email list.
