Learning together: 2019 Northwest Teaching Artist Network professional development gathering

In late June, over 40 teaching artists from around the region met for the second annual day of peer-led professional development and networking. Interactive workshops by teaching artists Ramiza Koya, Daniel Granias, Nicole McCall, and Kelly Thibodeaux provided opportunity for sharing teaching strategies, lesson-planning ideas, and engagement techniques. As a group, we spent time reflecting on our learnings, offering tips and suggestions from our own teaching practices, and dreamed together about what this network of teaching artists can offer one another and our communities. Many thanks to our presenters and all participants for an inspiring gathering!

NWTAN was launched by teaching artists in the field who saw a need for opportunities to connect and collaborate as independent contractors working in the same space. We are a growing, self-organized network and very much welcome ideas and vision for greater connection! If you are interested in participation or leadership, visit our Facebook page or contact skimbrell@therightbraininitiative.

Thanks to Oregon Ballet Theatre, Literary Arts, Regional Arts & Culture Council, Young Audiences of Oregon & SW Washington, Walters Cultural Arts Center, and Caldera for making the day possible.
