Northwest Teaching Artist Network (NWTAN) invites you to a join them for peer-led professional development and networking, hosted on June 20.

NWTAN is a community of teaching artists and professionals in the field, working together to share resources, opportunities, and best practices to empower each other as we bring art to our communities.

This half day of professional development will take place from 8:30am-12:30pm on June 20, at Oregon Ballet Theatre, 0720 SW Bancroft St, Portland, OR 97239. We’d love to see you there! Tickets can be purchased here, and please stay in the loop via our Facebook event.

Sessions include:

• Daniel Granias, a ceramics teaching artist with the Right Brain Initiative and cultural worker with the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO) and their Arts and Media Project. Through repetition, exchange, and collaboration, participants will learn to focus mindfully on creative process, rather than product-driven goals.
• Kelly Thibodeaux is a professional fiddle player from Louisiana with over 40 years of performance experience and over 15 years of A.I.R. teaching experience (Oregon public schools). Kelly will share his approach to teaching, as well as how to market programs to schools and other venues.
• A lifelong dancer, Nicole McCall started teaching and founded Dance Your Heart Out® in 1998. Since then, she has been the owner of Northwest Conservatory of Dance (Hillsboro, OR), a performer with the Why Not Dance Company (Dublin, Ireland), and the Outreach Director for BodyVox (Portland, OR). Nicole will focus on the importance of smooth transitions. Artists will walk away with a new, deeper understanding of transitions and practical tools they can implement right away.
• John Crever is a teacher trainer endorsed by the Feierabend Association of Music Education (FAME) and leads professional development sessions and certification classes in Conversational Solfege and First Steps in Music throughout the western United States. First Steps is the life’s work of early childhood music and movement researcher John Feierabend, who has been working to bring research into practice naturally.
