Presenting: The Northwest Teaching Artist Network!

The Right Brain Initiative, along with Caldera, The Oregon Ballet Theatre, The Regional Arts & Culture CouncilWalters Cultural Arts Center, and Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington are excited to announce the formation of a new network to support local teaching artists! The Northwest Teaching Artist (NWTA) Network was developed in response to the talented pool of local teaching artists who have historically had few opportunities to connect to networking, professional development, and peer-to-peer learning.

You may be asking: who is a “teaching artist”?

In the NWTA Network, teaching artists:

  • Are active as both an artist and educator and/or mentor
  •  Teach independently and/or for an arts or cultural organization
  • Work as a visitor in an educational setting

To celebrate the formation of this network, the NWTA Network is hosting an event for teaching artists of all disciplines. The event will be held:

Tuesday, June 19, 2018
9:00 AM to 12:15 PM
Portland Art Museum, Mark Building
1219 Southwest Park Avenue
Portland, OR 97205

The theme of the half-day event is Meeting Students Where They Are. Featuring an opening talk by Portland Creative Laureate Subashini Ganesan, participants will also have the choice to attend one of two additional breakout sessions with local teaching artists.  After the breakout, there will be time for comparing notes, general discussion, and networking time. Coffee will be provided.

We are thrilled to be part of this new community for local teaching artists and hope our fellow teaching artists join us for a morning of learning at sharing at PAM. Click here to register!
